Fortunately, We already have this commit at next version of Ubuntu kernel. The HP webcam will be supported at Karmic 9.10 I am sorry to tell you this. Before the Karmic released, could you use mainline build kernel instead? You could find them at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30/ . I have checked, v2.6.30 has the commit.
