I too had this problem. I could play sound but not video and according to the
help page I needed the java media framework to do this. JMF is not in the
repositories so I downloaded it from sun and tried to install it - this failed
but I found a web page detailing how to rename the bin to zip, extract it,
rename it back to bin and then execute it! This apparently installed JMF but
still no video but I do now get the sound from the video (maybe I should have
stood on one leg with my finger in my ear before executing the bin file).
I then found this page and installed the missing gsteamer ffmpeg (I already had
the good plugin) but still no video.
I agree with the comments above the lack of a simple way to insert a video when
the options are sitting there staring at you from the menus. It is a real
turnoff for most users - if there is an insert video option it should insert
video or at least tell you what to install to make it work.
