Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

I have an Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) system.

I had the previous flashplugin-nonfree package installed, that used the
d78 (beta) version of Flash 9 player from Adobe.

Today I see that the new, official flash release (r31) is available via
a new flashplugin-nonfree package 9.0.31~ubuntu1~edgy1, so I think "yay"
and I install it. It works fine, and afterwards I restart FireFox and
use about:plugins to see my new plugin version goodness... but it still
says d78! If I scroll down to the bottom I find another entry for
Shockwave Flash, that says r31. I don't really know which one is being
used but it seems not good to have two.

No matter how many times I stop/start FireFox I get the same behavior.
I redo my updatedb and use "locate libflash" and the only ones on the
system were the ones that were updated. Weird!

Then I notice that in the /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree-unpackdir
directory there are BOTH the old tarball (FP9_plugin_beta_112006.tar.gz)
_and_ the new one (install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz). Doesn't seem
like this should matter but, just to be safe and since I couldn't think
of anything else to do, I deleted the old one and ran "sudo dpkg-
reconfigure flashplugin-nonfree" again, then restarted FireFox. Now, I
only have one plugin listed for flash in the about:plugins page (the
right one, the r31 version).

Very weird! I don't know what's going on but this seems to be a
problem.

BTW, I agree with the other bug reporter, that this definitely does not
belong in /usr/lib...
