It all depends on how you format it. If there is just a domain, not ending in a backslash, it usually works fine, but if there is a backslash, or a page, it includes too many characters. I think that, by default, it should not include any punctuation on the end of the URL. I guess a URL may be valid if it is "http://example.com/page.";, with the punctation, but it's not likely to be formatted that way.
