To clarify:

[1] is definitely a no, as stated by previous users, so there is no need to 
report that back guys, and 
[2] if someone with this problem has any way of testing in Karmic, it would be 
a great help, as Karmic uses the 2.6.30 kernel as explained above - p.s I know 
it's in Alpha 2/3 state, but if anyone can then please do
[3] also provide this information as stated by Stefan
