If everybody is using stable defaults then who will test or develop new software? Every software community must have early testers and if they report something it would be in the best interests of community to fix reported bug and if early testers are ignored, they will just stop testing which eventually will be very bad for Ubuntu. No progress is being made on this bug for quite some time and it is likely to remain so. If nobody knows which patch introduces this bug just apply all diffs between 2.6.28 and 2.6.29 in fs/[ext4,jbd2] to Jaunty kernel.
