http://www.scribus.net/ Scribus (a PDF-capable desktop publisher which uses GNU GPL ghostscript, a Postscript clone). http://www.inkscape.org/ Inkscape (SVG Editor - vector graphics). Python scripting. OpenOffice.org documentation (getting started, writer, draw, impress, migration, developers, <em>links to</em> calc, basic programming, user guides, how tos, administration guide, FAQ, docs wiki start page). http://www.gimp.org/windows/ The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program). Bitmap Image editor. Python scripting. http://live.gnome.org/Dia Dia for Windows (Diagramming tool). Open Source equivelant to Microsoft Visio Professional. Extra shapes are in the dia directory on the cd.you can rewrite the installer so it will copy the extra shapes into the target directory. At this point in time, shapes cannot be rotated, but they are working on that feature. Shapes are written in a subset of SVG. Python scripting. http://argouml.tigris.org/ ArgoUML, a full-featured Unified Modelling Language (UML) diagramming tool. Java based. you can use JavaWebStart if you wish. http://www.ganttproject.biz/ GanttProject, a Project Management tool with not quite the niceness of Microsoft Project. Can open Microsoft Project files. Java based. you can use JavaWebStart if you wish. supports predecessors, resources, notes, custom columns, subtasks, milestones, tasks, gantt and PERT charts. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Audacity audio editor. aupports WAV format files. can do MP3 with LAME encoder DLL for some countries, but software patents on MP3 technology disallow this in the USA, Canada, and EEC until 2010-2012 when the patent expires. supports VST plugins! (that means all kinds of professional audio effects like pich and time shift, reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, equalization, compression, special effects, etc.) http://mediacoder.sf.net MediaCoder video/audio converter/transcoder. works with just about every format, including flash(swf). uses an annoying web front-end interface that you can ignore (except during setup) - you simply click on its System Tray icon in the lower-right hand corner of the screen. requires linux with WINE and a javascript-enabled browser (FF). http://www.zs4.net t...@b ZweiStein video editor. think of it as an object-oriented image editor with a timeline. has effects. was used for making music videos for the band who wrote it. MySQL and PostGreSQL database compatibility coming soon to version 2.4.0. Small business accounting, customers,vendors,jobs,invoices,A/P,A/R, reports, graphs,scheduled transactions,financial calculations. Formerly Macsyma, used by higher educational institutions, now GPL'd and open source.
