Public bug reported: Binary package hint: system-config-lvm
according to upstream debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=519579 a change was included into start script for system-config-lvm. As Ubuntu doesn't use the lvm2 init script this gives the error specified before.
