I am able to confirm this with my current setup, which is Karmic with KDE 4.3 Beta 2. I have searched upstream reports without any luck concerning this issue at this time, however there are similar, yet reversed, issues reported upstream and that this occurs with compositing disabled.
Another thing, and I hate to do this, is it could very well be a video driver issue. I am using the Intel driver on a GM965/GL960 controller, and we know there are still issues with the Intel drivers unfortunately.
