Public bug reported:

my computer suddenly goes into suspend (S3) mode without any warning at random 
times
it can happen when i use the computer, or i don't, sometimes it never goes to 
suspend mode even when the timer is set and the time passes with no activity.
sometimes (rare, but happens) when i go out of hibernation, as soon as the 
computer boots up and finshes loading, i don't even have time to click 
anything, and it goes to suspend.

computer is an old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo V2020
using ubuntu 8.10
