Somebody at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506984 suggested the following workaround that works for me, and which i expect has the same effect as removing openoffice.org-gtk. start impress from a terminal like this: SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen ooimpress
