Ah, thanks for your explanation. I'm afraid it's a litte late for such a
change, since we have shipped 8.1 or newer versions since Ubuntu 6.06
LTS, the oldest release that we still support at all.

Also, sockets have always defaulted to /var/lib/postgresql/ in debian
and Ubuntu, at least since postgresql-7.2 in Debian woody. So this could
only affect you if you mix a Debian/Ubuntu and a pure upstream
installation.
