Public bug reported:

In my system there's only one sound device, which is my USB phone.
Whenever I unplug it, the mixer applet starts using 100% of some
processor time forever and the only option is to remove it from the
panel and add it again.

Steps to reproduce.
- Blacklist your built-in sound card module
- Boot with a USB phone plugged in.
- Start your system monitor
- When the mixer applet is running, unplug the phone
- The system monitor should indicate some of the cores executing at 100%.
- Remove the mixer applet from the panel
- The system monitor should indicate normal usage

This is a papercut.
