Update:
The stuttering and Underruns disappeared! I now run the current jaunty kernel
2.6.28-13-generic, when submitting the bug report i was running 2.6.30, because
that version fixes some critical issues on my Intel Graphics Chipset.
Looks like I have to choose between having good sound or being able to
watch video(connected to tv output). Luckily it's only my mediaserver
and I can watch video on my AMD machine which runs Ubuntu smoothly.
