Actually , during Jaunty install it offers Automatic login for the user, [This
is a very clear option during the user setup]
there is no reason to make it default.
Also to be noted is that Yann's observations are from an Intrepid to
Jaunty UPGRADE.
Unless the process has changed in the Karmic installer , this is NOT a
paperCut
