I upgraded from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04, in mid-May, but had been using a
wired connection.
On 24/06/2009, I tried to install a wireless network adapter. I
followed the comments in the "compatible hardware" guide, & downloaded
ndiswrapper. I noticed that ndisgtk existed, so I downloaded that as
well (I am (more or less) just a user, so I need GUI's).
When I ran "Windows Wireless Drivers" (from System -> Admin), I
encountered the same problem as described above for 8.10.
I Googled the problem & found a number of posts from Feb 09, but no
solutions. However, one chance comment got me thinking & so I clicked
on the network icon (I hadn't realised that it was more than just an
indicator that the network was connected). From there I clicked on
labels (VPN) that didn't make any sense to me, until I found the
wireless bit. After adding suitable data, I was able to connect.
So, in this sense, I don't have a problem, but other people,
particularly newcomers to Linux, could.
