I'm also getting this problem.
I am using an ATI Radeon HD 3870 with the latest version of fglrx from
ATI's website.
The screen flickers quite badly whe I start anything that utilises OpenGL
(Google Earth, for example). Also it happens when I start System -> Preferences
-> Display or Wine.
This also causes any music that is playing to stop while the flickering is
happening.
If I leave it for a minute then it will recover itself. I am willing to
send anything that might be of use to help fix the problem (xorg.conf
for example). Just give the word.
