Public bug reported:

have recently tried ubuntu 10.1 LiveCD. no problems running. it
detected my graphics card perfectly. after needing a bios upgrade and
having winxp reinstalled, I decided to install ubuntu from liveCD.

now when it gets to startx x i just get a jumble of pretty coloured
stripes. I have tried the lowest VGA settings. i have tried safe boot
mode (seems to make no difference). still same net result: unusable.

CPU: AMD 64 1800+ (?)
M/board: Asus A8N-E
RAM: 1GB
Graphics: Leadtek NVidia FX540 (128MB mem); PCI-E
HDD: WD 160GB SATA2

the only thing that I can put it down to is a conflict with the latest
bios (necessary update, as I need to run Adobe Creative on Winxp)

Thought that it might be bios graphics device boot order (default is PCI, I
changed it to PCI-E), but still to no avail.
cheers
M.
