Public bug reported: [Jaunty and earlier] This particular bug is exhibited in both Gnome/KDE and related to the Network Manager OpenVPN plugin. Put simply, OpenVPN support in Network Manager is practically useless. Instead of using dialog boxes to choose certificates, etc., which doesn't allow for proper customization, it should simply be a config file manager that interfaces with the OpenVPN daemon, creates TAP/TUN devices if need be, asks for password when needed, etc.
Something along the lines of the following two apps: GOpenVPN (didn't get this one to work, but the screenshots seemed to be on par with the Windows equivalent mentioned below) http://gopenvpn.sourceforge.net/ (Related thread on setup: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6436461&postcount=1) or OpenVPN GUI in the Windows world.. http://openvpn.se/ Given the many telecommuters around the world, I believe admins will be happy when this issue gets resolved. I know I'll be one of them. Honestly, I believe this is an issue that shouldn't require "significant development efforts" to iron out as the OpenVPN daemon will handle all the heavy lifting in the background; which includes the addition/removal of network routes, etc. Thank you all for your time, hard work and dedication. It should be a simple config file manager. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/392420 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
