Ana, it is Totem Movie Player 2.26.1, using Gstreamer 0.10.22.

I thought I had removed all of the 24 bit files from the external drive,
but some of the files that do not play are larger than they should be
for 16 bit. There doesn't seem to be any way to check this on UBUNTU so
I will move the external drive to XP and get back to you.

I know that the hardware on the UBUNTU machine can handle 24 bit files.
Perhaps, the software cannot. The audio programs currently installed are
Audacious, Audacity, Rhythmbox Music Player and Sound recorder. Only
Sound Recorder will play some of them -- not all of them. Apparently
Sound Recorder is equipped to edit 24 bit files.
