Some people speculate it's about Yahoo changing it's servers and stuff. If that's the case, the online web services like http://invisible-scanner.com still work with that "Show avatar" link... It should work both as a workaround and as a reimplementation
Also, all over the forums there are.deb files with a supposed patch for this.
