I've created a slightly-modified version of marmuta's patch which
changes the default synchronization mode to 0 (no sync), rather than
preserving the existing default (2, full sync).  Either patch will allow
you to use an environment variable to set a specific synchronization
mode, but by changing the default, this patch gives you the fast
performance (and poor robustness!) of nosync without  having to set any
environment variables.

If that's what you want, use this patch instead.
