In via_driver.c file, there is function:
/* Select valid modes from those available. */
i = xf86ValidateModes(pScrn, pScrn->monitor->Modes, /* availModes */
Please check the values of variables:
pScrn->display->virtualX
pScrn->display->virtualY
before and after execution of the function "xf86ValidateModes".
