I have found another problem, or perhaps a cause. Gnome volume control does not work at all. I tried opening and setting it up, but the settings do not actually change. Every time I re-open it, recording is on "mute." When I run alsamixer instead, the recording level has sometimes dropped to zero. Setting it higher does not work, even when I leave both applications open, and turn up the volume.
