Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: nis
I am using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, nis 3.17-12ubuntu1 on amd64
Upon startup NIS fails to start even though it should be (it is present
in /etc/rcX.d/S18nis), and logon is not possible as a NIS user.
When logging in as root (local account), and starting nis by
/etc/init.d/nis start
does not work either, but restarting it (or stopping and starting it) works:
/etc/init.d/nis restart
or
/etc/init.d/nis stop
/etc/init.d/nis start
