Public bug reported:
Using the latest -generic kernel image in Karmic today I'm having a
problem on boot with bad /dev/null permissions.
Any attempt to open /dev/null fails. Logging in at the console spams
"Permission denied: /dev/null" messages and X refuses to start from the
command line for the same reason. GDM seems to go AWOL.
The permissions I see are crw------
I tried to manually chmod +w, but it did not help.
