Public bug reported:

Could not initialize the package information

An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package
information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include
the following error message:

'E:Could not open file /var/lib/dpkg/status - open (2 No such file or
directory), E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or
opened.'

Cannot run Package Manager, the program is being blocked by the error message
that pops up. When error message window is closed, Package Manager closes too.
This happened after an incomplete install. I was expecting a functon that
will just cancel the incomplete installation and clear the system of that
program that malfunctioned. Top task bar have "Do Not Enter" icon (beside the"
wireless connection" icon)
