Public bug reported:
When automatic disk check starts, everything is ok until splash seems to
freeze. Then disk access goes on (according to computer's Led blinking).
However this never ends and I have to reboot using power button (pressing
escape or Ctrl-Shift-Del has no effect).
If I disable splash in grub menu, disk check ends normally.
