I think this report is currently described in a general way and we need to narrow down the description.
Does the problem only appear when one is trying to use their PPTP (compared to VPNC, OpenVPN) account? I had tried quite a few different options and I managed to get PPTP VPN working. I think the issue was that EAP (in Authentication methods) was enabled.
