I've the same problem. Using Jaunty on an HP530c (p4-2.66). I upgraded to Jaunty about a month ago yet this problem only just cropped up. It happens any time the computer is left alone for a couple of minutes - very annoying. Power manager is set to 'never' put screen to sleep.
I'm always installing new things, so I can't rule out that something I've installed has caused this, but so far as I recall, I've only been installing apps, nothing systemic (although I did install the ubuntulooks theme the other day - I can't imagine that has anything to do with it).
