Dear Sir, I'll try to check out Ubuntu v. 9.04 on this Averatec AV3225HS laptop, but please allow me a few days because this machine is in full use.
Installing 9.04 requires me to do some preparatory work. And if 9.04 gives difficulties I need to go back to 6.06LTS first to get back where I am now. Right now I have a choice of two kernels: 2.6.15-54-386 (which does not allow me to play music CDs on my computer) and 2.6.24-24-386, which does not permit me to go onto the Internet. And so I work with 2.6.15-54-386. I have tried to install v. 8.04LTS and also 8.10 directly by using a saved screen configuration set-up, but the installation process would not complete itself in either of these cases. If it turns out that 9.04 fails on this machine then a full day is lost from doing other things. Nevertheless, I shall give it a try and provide you with a description of how I'll go about it.
