I still have this problem on jaunty I'm using gnome-screensaver and the issue occurs with the solarwinds screensaver (that's not to say it doesn't occur with other specific screensavers). The screensaver freezes and prevents any interaction - so it's impossible to login.
Logging in via ssh and running kill -9 solarwinds causes the login prompt to appear.
