Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

In Karmic, after the upgrade to the 2.6.31-2-generic kernel, based on
2.6.31-rc2, proper symlinks for CD devices are apparently not created.
This causes most CD burning applications, like k3b and Brasero to fail,
saying that there is no CD burner attached. I did some snooping around,
and found that the /dev/cdrom, /dev/cdrw, /dev/dvd, and /dev/dvdrw
symlinks are not created when the new kernel is used. However, the
/dev/scd0 link is still there, and the drive works fine for reading
data.

** Affects: udev (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
