Also make sure that in "System"-->"Preferences"-->"Multimedia Systems Selector" you've set "Default Input" to "ALSA - Advanced Linux Sound Architecture" LiamG: HDA Intel (ALSA Mixer) is correct, if you click on "Preferences", you should see an "Import0 Mux" that can be enabled.
