Update:
The warning tone can be disabled however this does not solve the issue
of why the "alert sound" playback is occuring through the motherboard
diagnostic speaker rather than a sound card/PC speakers.
Instructions to disable the warning tone ("alert sound") in Ubuntu 8.10
System->Preferences->Sound->Click on Sounds Tab->Uncheck "Play alert
sound"
Now that correct terminology is being applied, can someone help identify how to
stop the "alert sound" from being played back through an onboard diagnostic
speaker on the motherboard and direct it to the sound card/PC speaker?
