1) The gnome-alsa configuration error might be occuring if you have BOTH Ensoniq and Nvidia. (Someone helped me get search terms correct to get the archived post of ancient fix).
SOLUTION: Manually change all sound outputs to be single such that only Master is available. This is in both system --> pref. --> sound, and in volume control --> preferences. --> Note: I do not know if Skype will work and other devices will work with this setting, as I've not gotten Skype yet on this desktop. Plus, I'm not the one you want testing this due to the brain damage I have. 2) Upgrading to 9.04 does get sound if you do all the how-to steps but will not fix Gnome-alsa mixer error. 3) I do now have sound and radio playback. I finally found the 3rd headphone jack port which does work. The other to headphone jack ports will only work if you use cd or dvd apparently (and is not like the Mac I'm used to.) I'm considering this solved from my end, but from your end, reconfiguration of set-up might be cool? :D -- only beeps sounds even though entries recognized. pref. sound test never works. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395510 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
