If this is still an issue for you in the latest version of Kubuntu, could you
please attach a copy of the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old file after a hang/reboot,
as well as a copy of the output of the command "lspci -vvnn"

Kaffeine crashes when I try to load the DVB-T option and I have to log on again
and whether the graphic effects are active, I have to restart the pc. I use
kaffeine 0.8.6 on Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.1.2
