How to reproduce:
Run these perl programs:
print length($_)." ".ord($_)." ".ord(substr $_,-1)."\n" for "\c\";
print length($_)." ".ord($_)." ".ord(substr $_,-1)."\n" for "\c\\";
Excected result:
First program should print 1 28 28.
Second program shouldn't compile.
Actual result:
First program doesn't compile.
Second program prints 2 28 92.
