You missed the point, the samba server does not need to be a local
installation, it isn't in my case either. And to access a remote folder
might not be the first thing you do as a average private user, but as an
average business user you do. And remote folder access support is a
default install feature of nautilus, isn't it?
So all I do:
* opening my nautilus (file-browser), point it to smb://myserver
* clicking Bookmarks/Add Bookmark
* closing nautilus
* clicking on the ubuntu logo in the upper left
* moving my mouse onto Places/Windows shares on myserver and clicking on it
getting the error
