I have had similar thoughts for a long time now. The problem is, if
there are no open source headers to be able to build the support for
such libraries, like the ibmtts code that is BSD licensed, it simply
cannot be done, for one simple reason.

The proprietary code cannot be present on the build machines at package
build time.

The best we can hope to offer, is a system where the package gets re-
compiled when the user wants to build support for a proprietary synth.
