Hello
Thanks for your email.
I no longer have a problem with the sound card. Problem solved.
Thank you, Ubuntu team.
Best wishes
Graham

Subject: [Bug 232362] Re: ubuntu does not detect my sound card

Hi geecee4u7,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal).  It will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` 232362

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
I have just installed Ubuntu Hardy Heron and none of the players seem to detect
my sound system - that includes Rhythm Box, Totem Movie Player, and also VLC and
Kaffeine, which I have just installed. The video players play video images fine
but without audio.

I am dual-booting on this machine, Debian is on one 40 GB hard drive and
Ubuntu on another 40 GB hard drive, but of course they both use the same
sound card and speakers, and they both use the same Linux media players,
but the Debian media players function and the Ubuntu players don't.

I have no knowledge of how to lead or command my computer to search for
or detect a sound system - the software should be able to do that but it
doesn't.

At this moment I cannot remember what sound card is in this computer,
it's several years old but I know it's working because Debian is uses it
when I play CDs or watch video CDs or DVDs.

NB I wrote "I don't know" because the software will not accept, "All
Media Players." I have just got this reply from you:

"I don't know" does not exist in Ubuntu. Please choose a different
package. If you're unsure, please select "I don't know"

I suppose many of the support staff are Irish ...
