Yes. This does work (My blog). It took awhile to figure it out. I had posted it to several of the forums I was working it, but I missed this one. (my apologies). From how it functions, it seems to be several different pieces need to be addressed. Gnome-PPP has several issues as well as the driver issue and why usbserial needs to be restated each boot up.
