ALTERNATIVE FIX: I have tried everything in this page. Nothing worked until I tried this.
My Vista PC will not recognize my mic if plugged in the back... no sound... The problem is reverse with ubuntu... on many computers, it does not recognize you mic if plugged in the front. Plug you headset/mic in the back of your computer... et voila! You may need to play with the mic setting if you have messed them up.
