I think this is one of those bugs that might be difficult for an
ordinary user to reproduce.  I'm hesitant to break a package
intentionally in my squeaky-clean Jaunty installation just to check
whether Synaptic shows the whole error message!

If someone could help me, maybe I could try it in a chroot environment
or something.  But it really seems like the problem is that Synaptic
receives the whole message from the dpkg backend and mistakenly
truncates it.  If someone familiar with the link between Synaptic and
dpkg could take a look at this, they might be able to find the
problem, or verify that it's already fixed, quickly.
