Public bug reported:

I've been facing general sluggishness on my desktop computer for a while
now, my desktop system monitor applet shows almost constant 100% IOWait
during these period of unresponsiveness. After a while of trying to pin
down the process causing that, I was advised to try "pidstat -d", and
now I see that the process init is the only one with IO activity.

How can I investigate this problem further?
I'm using ubuntu jaunty on a Pentium-IV 3.0GHz desktop computer with 1 GB RAM
and an INVIDIA graphics chip.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
