(I've mirrored this comment in the upstream bug) I've confirmed by debugging that the root cause of this issue is http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522277. That bug's got a patch attached, which resolves the issue for me. Please push for inclusion into evolution, as without this fix, Evolution + OWA is crippled for anyone with a large volume of email.
