I can confirm this issue with the jaunty server install CD.

I tried repeatedly to install Jaunty and it always failed to boot with
the "no block device found" error repeated four times (I had 4
partitions used in the raid config).

I gave up and installed 8.04.  then in a fit of madness upgraded using
the CD to 9.04 and got the errors and no boot again.

trying:
> mdadm -As
created the first of the /dev/md0 (my swap partition)
but didnt find /dev/md1 (my / partition)
checked the mdadm.conf file on the initramfs and it had configuration details 
for both md devices (using UUID's)
