Public bug reported: With Ubuntu Intrepid the problem problem of low volume was eventually sorted out, perhaps by a combination of days of experimenting on my part and eventual system updates. The volume returned to what would be regarded as "normal". I would have expected Jaunty to correctly identify and support an Acer laptop with Intel chips but it has been a huge step backwards (don't even start me on the Intel video problems!!!)
With Ubunty Jaunty, not only has there been a regression, but it now even the physical volume dial on the side of the laptop has stopped working. The volume is so low that I have to have it near full just to use with headphones. Without headphones it is almost impossible to hear anything. I have tried all of the things I tried with Intrepid but this time around nothing seems to fix the issue. - getting rid of pulse audio helped a little - it is the same regardless of which kernel I use (2.6.28-14 through to 2.6.30-xxxx). - upgrading to Alsa 1.0.20 did not help at all (but didn't make it worse either). I have no intention of going back to Intrepid but this is quite annoying because I use my laptop for all my multimedia playback. It astounds me how many issues there have been with Jaunty yet I have managed to overcome them all except for the sound issues. This is not even a new problem. Many popular audio chipsets seem to have low volume issues. ** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Jaunty Low Volume - Acer Aspire 5720 Notebook with ALC268 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/402703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
