Public bug reported:
Updates to the public tab mean that the indicator applet is permanently
lit up and needs scrolling, effectively making the indicator applet
useless.
I want the public tab so that if I'm bored or have some spare minutes I
can have a quick scroll through to see if there's anything interesting.
However I may go a couple of days or more without reading it.
I don't want the public tab to update the indicator applet, it means I'm
less likely to notice if I have an @ reply or if someone particularly
interesting has dented as they get lost in the noise.
