my system had both Ubuntu and Kubuntu installed

i ran this command:

then midway through it asked about turning of something that started
with a K (sorry I can't remember exactly what it was)

when I restarted and tried to run the command again I had to run this command 
to get it to work:
dpkg --configure -a

after the dpkg command complete I was able to finish running the
command.

I was uninstalling kubuntu and I selected yes to closing kd and it shut the 
computer down.
